We hope you’re ready for all the memorable experiences you will have on the island! If you’re a tropical nature lover, want to know more about our vibrant culture, or want to delight yourself with Caribbean cuisine, our island offers activities for the whole family.
Keep in mind: If you want to explore all around Puerto Rico, consider renting a car. Visit many places at your pace!
1. Explore the local art and gastronomy!
The capital city is a strategic balance between urban and tropical vibes. As soon as you arrive in San Juan, visit Santurce, to know about the local art scene and get a taste of many award-winning restaurants around the area. As quick as 15 minutes from the airport, head out to the Museum of Art of Puerto Rico, La Placita de Santurce, and the iconic Calle Loíza.
If you want to be sun-kissed right from the start, Loíza is even closer to the airport! Its beautiful and pristine beaches are the perfect complement for its colorful restaurants that offer freshly caught seafood and Puerto Rican fritters like: alcapurrias, bacalaítos, and piononos.
2. Get to know our culture and its history
San Juan is known for its Spanish and colonial architecture that adorns all the streets of Old San Juan. For more than 500 years, the San Felipe del Morro Castle, the cobblestones, and the colorful houses have been historical monuments that enrich the city and show the history of the Island. Also, the Museum of the Americas will serve as a complete reference to the Puerto Rican ancestors.
If you’re feeling thirsty after all the walking, treat yourself to a refreshing snack! Eat a fruit popsicle from Señor Paleta or try our “piragüas”, also known as snow cones, that are sold by mini carts in the streets.
3. Take a road trip to the West coast!
Puerto Rico is a small island. Consider driving to the place where the most beautiful sunsets take place: the beaches of Rincón!
But first, wake up early and make your first stop at the Río Camuy Cave Park, located in the Northwest region of the island. This is your chance to discover the beautiful flora and fauna that covers this natural wonder.
Once you get to Rincón, you will be welcomed by a cool breeze and surfers looking for the perfect wave; take some surfing lessons for a more thrilling experience! On that note, it’s a must to visit the lighthouse overlooking the iconic Domes beach, you might get lucky and spot whales!
4. Puerto Rico is an archipelago. Take a boat trip!
Puerto Rico may be small, but diverse! This Puerto Rican archipelago is made up of the mainland, 4 small islands, and hundreds of keys and islets. Spend the day at Caja de Muertos island, a key located near Ponce, the southern city. Just a boat ride from the Salinas seaport, you can explore the ruins of the lighthouse and cool off at Pelicano Beach, while enjoying the uninhabited land.
Also, you can reserve a spot on the ferry so that you can enjoy the enchantments of the islands Vieques and Culebra. Both lands are made up of iconic coasts and distinctive restaurants located in the Eastern region of the mainland.
If you have already made up your mind to tour Puerto Rico, remember to rent a cart and reserve a spot for your family at the places that are required. We hope you have fun and enjoy your stay in our archipelago!
